Fuglen has opened its first cafe in Jakarta, Indonesia on 23 November 2024, making Indonesia the third overseas market to enter after Japan and Korea.
“We’re thrilled to announce the entry of our business in Indonesia,” says Einar Kleppe Holthe, the founder and global director of Fuglen. “In 2012, we opened our first overseas outpost in Tokyo, Japan. Since we have successfully introduced the Norwegian coffee culture and Nordic roast, the style of light roasting that makes the most of the potential characters of high quality beans, to the discerning Japanese coffee lovers. Also, our unique cafe-by-day and bar-by-night style, complete with vintage Norwegian furniture, has won us strong fans across Japan and Asia as many people visit our cafes in Tokyo from overseas.
“As Fuglen has been growing organically with a quality first approach over the last twenty-three years under my direction and ownership, we will continue to take this at a steady pace. Our first Jakarta location is relatively small, designed to allow us to find a format and alignment with the local market culture. And our plan is to find a standalone property and potentially a roastery location after a year or two. But for now, all focus is on getting that first step ready.” states Kleppe Holthe.
