Coffee Table 'Conform' by Hermann Bongard


Description

Foldable coffee table with chromed steel legs, teak and enamel decorated metal plate with geometric pattern. Bongard was a flexible and highly adaptable designer working on numerous platform ranging from glassworks, porcelain, print and furniture. Bongard won a Gold and silver medal at the Triennale di Milano in 1956. He is regarded as designer who experimented with various material compositions to give his products from. The 'Conform' coffee is an excellent example of his design logic and ideology. ———— Hermann Bongard was one of our most versatile and prolific designers. He worked across many platforms with a well developed sense for form and material. After graduating from the National College of Art and Design in 1941 he began work as an advertisement designer. From 1947 he worked at Christiania Glasmagasin where he designed glass for Hadeland Glassverk. He was awarded the gold medal at the Triennale in Milan in 1954 for his wine server set Hermann. The following year Bongard began as a freelance designer. For Figgjo Fajanse he\ designed the ovenproof Vulcanus range marked by the distinct A la Carte d.cor. In 1960 he was appointed artistic director of the organisation of applied arts, Plus. In the period 1964-1968 he was design manager at the publisher J. W. Cappelen.
