Ceramic Vase by Erik Pløen

Description

Unique hand moulded ceramic vase made by Erik Pløen in his own studio - 1960s. Glazed with triangle surface decoration, long neck and signed underneath. In in good vintage condition. ———— At age of 16, Erik Pl.en joined the ceramics workshop Schneider & Knutzen as an apprentice. In 1946 he established his own workshop. During its first decade, Pl.en and his assistants produced decorated pottery in tin glazed earthenware goods. In 1957 he began working alone, focusing on artistically crafted stoneware. Pl.en’s major breakthrough came with his solo exhibition at Norway Designs in 1959. That same year he received Governmental grant for artists, and his works were presented by Georg Jensen Inc. in New York. From the mid-1960’s he increasingly modelled vases and bowls by hand exclusively instead of using the potter’s wheel. Over time Pl.en’s ceramics developed in a more loose, sculptural direction.
